Contig names look like this: “chrIV.fasta.screen.Contig64”. The roman numeral (IV) identifies the contig as belonging to the assembly of Chromosome 4. Especially with smaller contigs, the chromosome assignment should be regarded as tentative. The contig number (64) was arbitrarily assigned by the phrap assembler or the consed sequence editor, and has no biological meaning; it serves only to distinguish the names of different contigs.
